Meet Kym Putnam & Brian Hall

Kym Putnam and Brian Hall are outdoors-enthusiasts who say that Smithers is one of the best places to enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer. Brian is well-known in the outdoors and the ski community for his work in helping to establish the Hankin Evelyn Backcountry Ski Area. He was even recognized for his efforts when he was named Innovator of the Year and Volunteer of the Year in 2012 and has been featured in several publications.

A good working knowledge of the area is helpful when you run a business that caters to visitors. Kym and Brian take a lot of pride in making their guests feel welcome and comfortable, and they're always good for a tip or two for the ones who are looking for a local adventure.

Kym and Brian are grateful to be a part of a community that is so committed to the success of its businesses. And, notes Kym, business owners in Smithers reciprocate in kind by taking care of the area and the local environment. Kym knows that Smithers has seen its share of economic challenges, but believes that the people have always been resilient and quick to support the local economy. Business owners have been wonderfully creative and adaptive, shifting with the needs of the people and making Smithers a viable and beautiful place to live. And being a smaller community, she adds, means that it is easy to get to know each other, which provides a sense of safety and security that you can't get in big cities.
