Meet Tracy McIntyre
Tracy McIntyre’s experience with chronic pain left her with the realization that a career change was in order. Having been in various public service jobs throughout her lifetime, Tracy knew that she wanted to continue working closely with people. She looked at a number of career options but soon settled on life coaching because it was a job that would help to make a difference in people’s lives. Tracy took her training through Erickson College International and received her certification in early 2014, launching Peak Life Coaching soon after. Tracy considers coaching a “calling,” and feels privileged to be a part of people’s lives when they are striving to achieve their goals.
Tracy has lived in several different places throughout BC, Canada and New Zealand. An avid outdoors enthusiast, her first introduction to Smithers was on a ski trip and she was immediately drawn to the community. “There’s so much diversity and culture here,” states Tracy. “It’s a ski town, but it’s a town first and a ski resort second,” she adds, making it a much more authentic and welcoming place to live. “You still get mountain culture but with all the amenities of a real town. It’s a small community, and people may not all know each other but they recognize each other,” she says, and so no matter where you are in town you feel a sense of home.
Tracy feels compelled to give back to the community, a legacy from her grandparents who helped shape her attitudes towards citizenship, volunteerism and neighbourhood block parties. In Smithers, Tracy has contributed her time and energy to groups like the Bridging Committee (between First Nations, settlers and new immigrants), Smithers Exploration Group and Groundbreakers Collective (promoting sustainability through farming and gardening). Tracy is also a Bulkley Valley Credit Union community support committee member. In her spare time, Tracy still enjoys getting outside fishing, hiking and wild harvesting. “There are so many outdoor activities right out my back door.” Plus, she says, “It’s one of the few places on earth that you’re apt to spot a moose in your front yard.”
Transformative. Adventurous. Empowering.
