Meet Lydia Millett
Author Lydia Millett has a passion for the arts and all things creative. She also has a passion for her small town and says that Smithers has a strong and vibrant arts community that make it conducive to doing the kind of work that she does. And, she adds, it’s important for small communities to maintain a vibrant creative arts scene. “I think it is very important for young people to see people in their own community creating things, books, artwork etc. It shows them it’s possible to live your dreams and explore your creativity!”
“Grey’s Journey” is Lydia’s first children’s book, and she is proud to have self-published it. Self-publishing allowed her to maintain her own creative direction, and she notes that her fellow Smithers residents and businesses have been tremendously supportive of her efforts.
Lydia says that Smithers is “a wonderful place to bring up children” and a community with many opportunities for recreation, both indoors and out. “Smithers is unique,” she says, “and it grows on you like crazy!” She gives back to her community by being a volunteer reader at local elementary schools and libraries.
Playful. Educational. Unique.
Follow the exciting journey of baby Grey, a playful and adventuresome whale calf, as he embarks on a great swim, only to find himself separated from his Mama. Grey’s Journey takes the baby whale on a trek into the Mediterranean Sea to find his Mama and reunites with her. Children ages three to ten years will love the colourful, hand-painted illustrations of Grey and all the wonders that he finds as he searches for his Mama.
“Grey’s Journey” is Smithers author Lydia Millet’s first children’s book. It is available for purchase in bookstores and other businesses in and around Smithers and northern BC. Purchase it locally at Interior Stationery, Nature’s Pantry, Big Smiles Kids Store, Mountain Eagle Books, and Wooden Mallard. The Book has also been made available through Lydia’s website.
