Hudson Bay Mountain

Auditoriums & Halls-Food & Beverage-Sports & Recreation

Hudson Bay Mountain is almost synonymous with Smithers, and many locals, as well as tourists over the decades, have considered it their “home away from home.” Hudson Bay Mountain has everything a skier or snowboarder could want, including great food and drink, exceptional lodging, world-class skiing and snowboarding, meticulously-groomed hills and trails and the high-calibre team who are passionate about skiing and boarding and giving guests a five-star experience.

Hudson Bay Mountain offers a number of programs and services, including; shuttle from Smithers, Snow School (ski and snowboard lessons in a variety of formats), camps and clubs, school programs, instructor courses, an Adaptive Sports Program, the Smithers Alpine Club and a Special Olympics Alpine Program. Equipment rentals and repairs are also available.

A popular aspect of Hudson Bay Mountain is the Local Supply Co. Terrain Park, which has been operated in partnership with Rayz Board Shop in Smithers since 2003. The Terrain Park is home to over 20 features; from little jumps, boxes and picnic tables to roller coasters, rails and large jumps. It offers good freestyle skill progression for kids to adults and is built every year with help from locals and especially the legends: Jason Krauskopf, Greg Stokes and Logan Malkow.

Guests may want to keep a look out for celebrities when they visit the resort since Hudson Bay Mountain frequently serves as a movie and television set, most notably for the productions Eight Below, The Grey, and The Last Ship.

Meet Our Team

Although everyone who works at Hudson Bay Mountain isn’t related, it truly is a family business. The team is always so close they all feel as though they’re one big family. In fact, many of the resort’s team members, literally grew up on the mountain and one even held their wedding there, there was such a connection. Frank McBride, Hill and Trail Manager, started out as a volunteer who would work in exchange for day passes, eventually getting hired on full-time thanks to his passion.

The family atmosphere on the mountain extends all the way through the community. Many local kids grew up skiing down the mountain and in partnership with "Dawn 2 Dusk":https://lovesmithers.com/businesses/dawn-2-dusk, Hudson Bay Mountain Resort offers a weekend and holiday bus service that shuttles skiers and riders of all ages up the mountain for a day on the slopes and back to town after the mountain closes

Hudson Bay Mountain is unique from other BC ski resorts in that the town of Smithers came before the mountain. Usually, the resort is developed first and the town springs up around it. It was the wonderful town of Smithers and its friendly, dedicated people that drew the owners to invest in the mountain, and Hudson Bay Mountain Resort team noes that the Smithers community has been tremendously supportive of the business. The team at Hudson Bay Mountain tries to pay that forward by forging partnerships with the community, offering ski and board programs and supporting local causes.
