Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market

Agriculture & Food Production-Arts-Food & Beverage

For almost two decades the Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market has been serving up the freshest vegetables, the most succulent meats, the tastiest baked goods and the most beautiful and diverse hand-crafted wares in the region. The Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market is a grassroots, community-based and volunteer-driven organization that aims to bring the people who live in the Bulkley Valley together with local food producers, allowing them to connect in a meaningful way. The goal is to help people see where food is produced and how they can strengthen the local economy by eating food that is grown and made close to home.

The Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market is a year-round market. It takes place every Saturday between Mother’s Day weekend through September in Central Park. During the rest of the year, the market takes place in various venues and at various times between October and May.

Meet The Board & Staff of the Bulkley Valley Farmers' Market

The Bulkley Valley Farmers' Market is one of the most vibrant and successful farmers' markets in northern BC, and the board and staff credit its success to its amazing and diverse group of farmers, growers, chefs and crafters as well as to local residents who have been tremendously supportive of the market over the years. The market has evolved from a small affair with a handful of vendors to a year-round event with 40-50 vendors in the summer months and 10-15 throughout the rest of the year.

The year-round indoor market is the newest addition to the Bulkley Valley Farmers' Market, and Past President Kala Hooker has seen local growers really step up to help ensure that the market has a variety of foods to offer in the winter time. "Growing in the north has some challenges," Kala notes. "But the farmers have done an amazing job of providing fresh wares like root vegetables and micro-greens for year-round consumption in Smithers."

Kala adds that everyone works hard to make the market vibrant and dynamic. The outdoor market features weekly live entertainment by artists from around the Bulkley Valley. Crafters produce a variety of unique hand-made artisan goods, and bakers and chefs produce gourmet foods, baked goods and desserts that are made from scratch. "We have the best Farmers' Market in Northern BC," Kala declares.
