Meet Lydia Millett

Author Lydia Millett has a passion for the arts and all things creative. She also has a passion for her small town and says that Smithers has a strong and vibrant arts community that make it conducive to doing the kind of work that she does. And, she adds, it's important for small communities to maintain a vibrant creative arts scene. "I think it is very important for young people to see people in their own community creating things, books, artwork etc. It shows them it's possible to live your dreams and explore your creativity!"

"Grey's Journey" is Lydia's first children's book, and she is proud to have self-published it. Self-publishing allowed her to maintain her own creative direction, and she notes that her fellow Smithers residents and businesses have been tremendously supportive of her efforts.

Lydia says that Smithers is "a wonderful place to bring up children" and a community with many opportunities for recreation, both indoors and out. "Smithers is unique," she says, "and it grows on you like crazy!" She gives back to her community by being a volunteer reader at local elementary schools and libraries.
